Watching 4:3 DVDs on a widescreen TV sucks when it is stretched out but it also sucks when you watch it in 4:3 and the sidebars come up grey but you can't figure out how to change them to black because the setting is hidden under some random menu item:
On the Panasonic DVD Recorder with 250GB HDD & Twin HD Tuner (Model No: DMR-XW350), the default mode when playing DVDs is for the sidebars to appear in grey instead of black. To change them to black instead of grey, hit the "Function Menu" then go to "Others", then "Setup", "Display" and turn "Screen Saver" off. Done! Happy viewing.

You sir, ARE A GOD!!!! This has been annoying me for 3 years
ReplyDeleteThankyou I wish I knew this 8 years ago! I suffered through 7 seasons of deep space 9 on my dlp projector unnecessarily. I couldn't bare to inflict my oled to 7 seasons of voyager, burning in the side bars. Your fix worked for the dmr bwt660. On my Japanese only unit it was under the settings menu with the box -> 画面設定 -> テレビ画面の焼き付け低減機能
